LIBERTARIAN CANDIDATE FOR GOVERNOR RISING IN THE POLLS!
October 3, 2002

The latest poll conducted for Pittsburgh's KDKA-TV by SurveyUSA shows that Ken Krawchuk, the Libertarian Candidate for Governor, is rapidly gaining ground on his opponents following his widely-acclaimed performance in the first gubernatorial debate two weeks ago.

"There's been a huge increase in the number of Pennsylvania voters who've indicated they'll be voting for someone other than one of the two old-party candidates", Krawchuk said. "In the last poll, it was about 1%, but now it's up to 4%. And when you look at specific demographic data, such as the 5% of African Americans, the 6% of pro-gun voters, and the 7% of the 'rest of Pennsylvania' which includes State College where the debate was held, the inescapable conclusion is that these people are voting for Ken Krawchuk!"

Krawchuk supports gun rights, and in the debate presented statistics showing how "a handgun is a girl's best friend". He has also denounced the drug war as "incredibly racist", since African Americans are incarcerated for drugs at a rate sixteen times greater than whites, despite the fact that drug use is about the same among all races. Krawchuk has pledged to pardon all non-violent drug offenders on his first day in office.

"I'm disappointed that the pollsters chose not to include the Libertarian candidate by name", Krawchuk continued. "If Pennsylvania's voters were presented with an honest list of all the candidates on the ballot and the name of Ken Krawchuk, surely more would have chosen the Libertarian alternative of tolerance and respect for the individual over the big-government, tax-and-spend solutions of my opponents."

Krawchuk said he found the tripling of his poll numbers heartening and exciting. "All it will take to ensure a Libertarian victory this year is to attract the vote of one in eight voting-age Pennsylvanians, which means we're about one quarter of the way to that goal. And there are still six more debates to come! If Minnesota could elect a Jesse Ventura, then certainly Pennsylvania can elect a Ken Krawchuk. And the latest indication is that we will."

Founded in 1971, the Libertarian Party is the third largest political party in the state and the nation, with over 500 elected and appointed officials currently serving in office nationwide, and 71 in Pennsylvania, more than any other state except California. Like the Founding Fathers, Libertarians believe that you have a God-given, inalienable right to conduct your life as you see fit, without interference, so long as you respect the rights and property of others.
