Former Libertarian Gubernatorial Candidate Ken Krawchuk Elected State Party Chair
December 7, 2002
Ken Krawchuk, the Libertarian candidate for Pennsylvania
Governor in 2002, was elected Chair of the Libertarian
Party of Pennsylvania at the bi-monthly meeting of the
state party's board of directors on Saturday, replacing the
outgoing Chair, John Storey of Lemoyne near Harrisburg.
Storey reluctantly resigned as party Chair after he
relocated to Tennessee for business reasons. Krawchuk will
finish Storey's term which ends in April, and pledged to
continue Storey's agenda of further professionalizing the
Libertarian Party and increasing the number of elected
Libertarians across Pennsylvania.
"Under Mr. Storey's leadership, 2002 was a record-breaking
year for the Pennsylvania Libertarian Party", Krawchuk said
after his election as Chair. "But it's no time to rest on
any laurels. Now we must build upon our successes, gear up
for the local elections in 2003, and lay plans for the next
round of major races in 2004. We have our work cut out for
us."
Some additional goals Krawchuk outlined for the state
party include dramatically expanding fundraising
activities, joining with other third parties to lobby for
ballot access reform, improving party communications via
the Internet, and increasing Libertarian influence in the
Pennsylvania Primary elections.
Founded in 1971, the Libertarian Party is the third
largest political party in the state and the nation, with
over 500 elected and appointed officials currently serving
in office nationwide, and 71 in Pennsylvania, more than any
other state except California. Like the Founding Fathers,
Libertarians believe that you have a God-given, inalienable
right to conduct your life as you see fit, without
interference, so long as you respect the rights and
property of others.
