LIBERTARIANS ANNOUNCE CAMPAIGNS FOR GOVERNOR, LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR
February 12, 2002

Ken Krawchuk will announce his campaign for the Libertarian nomination for Governor of Pennsylvania in a whirlwind tour of the state this weekend, with major stops in Harrisburg, Pittsburgh, Erie, State College, and Philadelphia, among other cities. Krawchuk will appear in southeastern Pennsylvania on Tuesday, February 19th at 8 PM in the Public Room of the Philadelphia Inquirer building, 800 River Road near Conshohocken, where PA 23 and PA 320 meet.

Krawchuk, 49, is an entrepreneur from Abington in southeast Pennsylvania, and was the Libertarian candidate for Governor in 1998. Krawchuk's campaign will be based on Libertarian core values, tolerance, and respect for the individual. "Like all Libertarians, I believe that you have the right to live your life your way, provided you respect the same right for your neighbor.", Krawchuk said. "No other political party is committed to defending the rights and property of our citizens."

Running for Lieutenant Governor with Krawchuk is Henry Haller, 54, a small business owner from Pittsburgh and the Libertarian Lieutenant Governor candidate in 1998. "All of the announced candidates from the two old parties represent the command-and-control theory of government", said Haller. "It's important to give Pennsylvanians another choice, candidates who trust our citizens to run their own lives without some bureaucrat peering over their shoulder."

The Libertarian Party will be nominating their statewide candidates on Saturday, March 23rd, at their annual convention at the Valley Forge Holiday Inn. "Pennsylvania Libertarians are strongly in support of the Krawchuk/Haller team", Krawchuk said. "Together we will add a viewpoint that has been missing from the statewide debate, that of the Pennsylvania taxpayer. So Henry and I will outline a state budget at our convention that will eliminate the need for a state income tax."

Founded in 1971, the Libertarian Party is the third largest political party in the state and the nation, with over 500 elected and appointed officials currently serving in office nationwide and 54 in Pennsylvania. Like the Founding Fathers, Libertarians believe that you have an inalienable right to conduct your life as you see fit, without interference, so long as you respect the rights and property of others. As a result, Libertarians favor a small, responsible government. Libertarians agree with the traditional Democratic values of personal freedom and civil liberties, and with the Republican values of economic freedom and low taxes.
